PWA World Cup Korea

By Asia, World Tour No Comments™™™™™™™™™™™™™

Korea! Delivering once again. It’s my 4th time to this beautiful country and this year it was the first slalom stop on the PWA World Tour. It can be an interesting event as not all of us (me not at all) have had the luxury of tuning up against anyone so it’s interesting to see where you stand after a summer (or European winter) of training on the new equipment. I had a somewhat stagnant event; kicked off with a good first round putting me in the prizemoney then collected some weed and missed a race in the next rounds which dropped me back 10 places and this is all the racing we finished throughout the entire event! This event was the first for Luke Baillie who I’m bringing on the tour this year coming from the RS:X Olympic Class windsurfing. Great to have more Australians competing and Luke has been a friend of mine for many, many, many years so it will radballs to have him on tour this year.

After the contest, a few of my buddies took off down to Busan, one of the largest cities in Korea right in the south and explored this crazy culture. We may not speak a word of Korea, but that did not stop us taking over the city for one weekend and visiting some amazing venues for some amazing adventures.

Severne Photoshoot – Gold Coast

By Promotion 2 Comments™™™™™™™™™

Most of you will know now that for 2013 I’ve switched from Point-7 sails to Severne. There’s a lot of factors behind the move. There’s some articles on the web and magazines about to hit in February where I’ll discuss it so i’ll make you all wait until then.

In the meantime, summer is kicking on in full swing in Australia! I took the liberty of doing a photoshoot for my new sail sponsor Severne down at the Gold Coast in Queensland, nearby where I live. The open surf beach photos are from the Gold Coast Seaway, shot from the sand-dredging jetty right at the end of the beach. And the flatwater shots are inside the Broadwater, taken from a little secluded cove right up the end tucked behind the seaway. Photos were shot by my Dad and Luke Baillie.

Singapore & Swedish House Mafia

By Asia, Events, Windsurf No Comments™™™™™™™™™™™™

It’s that time of year again. I’m getting in to the routine of heading to Singapore for the SIM Open / Asian Windsurfing Championships which took place once again on the beautiful East Coast from ConstantWind Club. We had some really funky weather during the event and had 20-25 knots the first day of racing which was pretty full on as most of us travellers only had our biggest sails! Jesper Vesterstrom won the event ahead of Chris Newman then me. Following on from the event we got tickets to SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA’s sold out last ever world tour playing at the Indoor Stadium. What an amazing concert! Might try to get tickets to see them in Australia in a few weeks as well!

All the windsurf shots are by the legendary Howie Choo.

Guitars, Guitars, Guitars.

By Lifestyle No Comments™™™™™™™

Not everyone will know this but I am pretty in to guitars and have played for about 15 years. I happen to also have 2 cousins who are quite talented musicians and play in some rock/contemporary/classical bands and ensembles down here in Australia. As we live in different cities in Australia, about once a year around Christmas, all 3 of us are in Brisbane at once and we usually go and rent a studio for a few hours and have a jam. Good fun… Mostly cranking through some old-school rock and metal classics from Van Halen, to Metallica, to Iron Maiden to Megadeth. Devil horns UP!

Bacchus Pool in Brisbane

By Lifestyle No Comments™™™™™™™™

Has taken Brisbane a while, but FINALLY some cool little hangouts are starting to pop up around the city much akin to what Sydney has to offer. On this particular Saturday I hit this new pool bar at Rydges Hotel at South Bank called Bacchus. It’s got a small but chick little pool and comfy couches, great menu and is tucked away enough its not too crowded. Had a blast on a hot summer’s afternoon with my buddy Aaron and my girl Stacey. Check this place out when you’re next in Brisbane.
